This Mother’s Day, Celebrate You

We’ve witnessed so many creative, personal approaches to celebrate mother’s day last year! Again this year, as the pandemic continues to pose a threat globally, many of us are recalibrating how we can give extra recognition to moms on our very special day. This is the second Covid-19 Mother’s Day celebration — so we now know better how to show our appreciation of motherhood this time around without putting our health at risk.

Mother’s Day is a time for showing appreciation for the nurturing and sacrifices made by moms, but it can also be a time to reflect on the joys motherhood brings into our lives. While there are many ways to celebrate this special day, it’s important to remember the simple things that bring us happiness. We give so much of ourselves to others —  this year, do something different and make time to celebrate you.

Try one of these simple ways to celebrate being a mother:

Peace Out

Every mom yearns for some quiet time, and Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity for enjoying some peace and solitude. Give your family a nudge by making a wish list of simple things you’d like to enjoy on your special day. The list can include anything you want, such as an hour of quiet time, a chance to sleep in, or a special treat from your favorite coffee shop.

Take a Stay-cation

No need to book an extravagant outing for Mother’s Day when you can bring the spirit of a faraway destination to you with travel protocols in hand. If you’re yearning for a tropical getaway, use this as inspiration. Relax in the sun with a tropical beverage, listen to music, and indulge in your favorite island-inspired cuisine.

Find your Happy Place

Find a spot just for you and create a space that brings you joy. It could be a corner in the garden where you plant your favorite flowers and herbs or a cozy corner for reading or sipping a warm beverage. Make space all yours and fill it with special items, soothing scents, soft fabrics, or favorite colors. When you find yourself feeling frazzled, you’ll have a happy place to retreat and recharge.

Stroll Down Memory Lane

Use the day as an opportunity to enjoy old memories. Dust off the family albums and spend time browsing old photographs and portraits. If you have photos from your childhood, share them with your kids. This can be a great way to start a discussion on how things have changed over the years, but also lets your children see that you were their age once.

Get Creative

You’ve always wanted to take a painting class or learn the art of French cooking. This Mother’s Day put yourself first and sign up for something you’ve always wanted to do. You’ve spent far too many hours at soccer practice — you deserve to treat yourself!

Bask in the Sunshine

Enjoying nature and sunshine is a great way to recharge. Find a local trail, park, or hiking spot and set out on a day of walking in the great outdoors. Pack a picnic, bring your family and enjoy a sunny afternoon together. But don’t forget to always follow Covid-19 protocols by keeping social distancing and wear face mask.

Enjoy a Film

Enjoy a Film

If you’re like many moms, the last movie you saw was either Disney or super-hero themed. This Mother’s Day, go ahead and choose that popular romance or comedy film instead. Take a few hours just for you at home – to enjoy the movie YOU want to see.

While extravagance is nice, simplicity can bring just as much joy on Mother’s Day during the pandemic. As moms, we lead busy lives and often forget to take time for ourselves. This year, celebrate being you by finding special ways to include laughter and love into your day. We give so much of ourselves to others —  this year, do something different and make time to celebrate you.
