Spring Break is only a few weeks away, so now is a great time to plan your family’s activities.  Whether you’re looking for Sacramento kids activities close-to-home or a regional family adventure, we’ve got you covered!

What’s happening near Sacramento during spring break? Lots! Check out this list of fun-filled local events:

Kids and parents alike will love the Sacramento Grilled Cheese Festival. This cheesy, all-ages event is happening on April 9 at Southside Park in Sacramento. In addition to grilled cheese, the event features live music, entertainment, and kid-friendly activities.

Families will also enjoy the Kids Expo California, an event created by kids, for kids! The event will be held at Cal Expo April 8-9. The expo was planned by a council of students and aims to bring entertainment, shopping, special appearances and hands-on fun to area youngsters.

Looking for something different?  Try the Sacramento River Train! This local rail line is offering special trips during spring break on the Easter Egg Express. This 2.5 hour train ride will please passengers of all ages.  The trains runs most weekends in April and depart from the West Sacramento train station.

Spring Break Sacramento KidsLooking for a cool cruise down the river? Hornblower Cruises is offering special one-hour river cruises on Sunday, April 16. The boat departs from the L Street dock and includes a visit with the Easter Bunny. Explore Sacramento’s beautiful rivers and catch a glimpse of wildlife and natural beauty on historic waterways.

The Sacramento Earth Day event is also coming up… this community festival is aimed at helping families learn to lead healthful, sustainable lives. This fun event is held near downtown Sacramento at Southside Park on Sunday, April 23. The whole family will enjoy music, art, food and education at the event.

Activities for Animal Lovers

If your family enjoys animals, there are several amazing options for Sacramento kid activities concerning animal adventures:

Wildlife fans should plan a visit to Safari West, a wild animal park and preservation center located near Santa Rosa. This amazing park transports visitors to a landscape modeled after the African Serengeti. On April 16, the park holds its annual Hunt for the Hare event. The event is an exciting, family-friendly celebration in an exotic, adventurous environment.

Animal lovers may also enjoy the upcoming Sacramento Dog Show. The family-friendly event has been around for nearly a century, and takes place April 13-16 at CalExpo in Sacramento. The event is open to the public, and is attended by breeders, groomers, media and pet lovers alike.

Children interested in zoology should check out the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary’s Jr. Zookeeper program. This program is perfect for kids age 8-12 and takes place during spring break. Kids will help prepare animal’s food, learn about animal handling and create toys for zoo animals. They also get to meet ferrets, skunks, tortoises, and skinks up close. This 5-day program takes place at the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary April 10-14 in Folsom.

Outdoor Adventures

Warmer weather makes outdoor kid activities in Sacramento perfect for Spring Break. Enjoy natural sights and sounds with a close-to-home hiking adventure on one of these nearby trails:

Folsom State Recreation area offers easy hikes for all fitness levels. The Oaks Nature Trail is perfect for beginners. This nature trail is less than a mile long and is dotted with trees, lakes, creeks and wildlife.

Also close to home is Rancho Seco Recreational Park which offers scenic hiking for all ages. The park’s Howard Ranch Trail an easy three and a half-mile trail perfect for gazing on blooming April wildflowers.

Cosumnes River Preserve is also worth a visit. The park is just south of Elk Grove and offers families easy hiking on well-maintained nature trails. The preserve is home to hundreds of bird, fish, and amphibious species, so wildlife viewing is excellent. While you’re at the preserve, check out the Lost Slough Wetlands Walk which is an easy, one-mile trail. Or, try the River Walk Trail which is just over 3 miles long.

Sports Activities

Spring Break gives kids the chance to recharge after a cold, wet winter. Sacramento has lots of such programs perfect for keeping kids active during the break. Check these sport- themed places to visit in Sacramento for kids:

Flip 2 It Sports Center in Roseville is a great place for kids to stay active during the break. Kids age 4 and older can sign up for the 5-day Hopping Palooza program. The program includes exciting activities for kids in Sacramento such as rock climbing, fitness, dancing, tumbling, and more.

Baseball fans should consider one of the Sacramento River Cats events happening at Raley Field during spring break. Dinger’s Kids Club events include an April 9 pregame Easter Egg Hunt hosted for kid’s club members.

Families who want to be active together over the break should consider one of the area’s non-competitive fun runs. These non-competitive events are suitable for all ages. Sacramento’s Doggy Dash (open to families and canines) happens on April 8th and benefits the Sacramento SPCA. Families will also enjoy the Lodi Easter Run held at lovely Lodi Lake Park on April 8th. This family run is open to all ages and includes a breakfast and raffle at the event.

Spring Break Sacramento Kids

Kids will also enjoy the Sacramento State Aquatic Center’s spring break activities. Kids age 7-17 can take part in a 4-day program where they will learn sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and kayaking in a safe and fun atmosphere. This program runs April 10-13.

TopGolf’s Kid’s Academy is another exciting program for sports-minded children. This 4-day program teaches kids all about golf in an indoor setting. Kids age 6-12 can attend this academy at the TopGolf location in Roseville.

Technique Gym center in Rancho Cordova is also great place for kids age 5-12 to build athletic skills. The center is offering a week-long spring break Activity Program.
